the say-it-backwards game show

Talk backwards. Sound ridiculous. Flip it round and find out if you nailed it.

How it works

Three steps. Zero dignity.

  1. Hear it backwards

You get a phrase like “hot dog bun”. Tap the big pink button and it plays back to front. It sounds like nonsense, because it is.

  2. Say what you hear

Hold to talk and copy the gibberish, sound for sound. Don’t think about the words. Just make the noises.

  3. Flip it and laugh

GibberFlip turns your take the right way round. Did you just say “hot dog bun”? Or something much, much worse?

Try it with your eyes

Every phrase has an evil twin

Play a phrase backwards and it turns into gibberish. Your job is to say the gibberish. Here are a few, spelled the way they roughly sound. The real thing is even weirder.

Phrase: “hot dog bun”.

Example phrases and how they roughly sound backwards. Pick one to load it into the card.
ForwardsBackwards, roughly
tack taff gib
nub gawd tah
mite-uh steep
noom uth tack kool

Tap a row to load it into the marquee.

Solo levels

Nail it. Get stars. Go again.

Play on your own through a ladder of levels. It starts small and friendly and climbs all the way up to proper tongue twisters. Pass a phrase to earn up to three stars and open the next one.

Stuck? Slow the backwards audio down, listen as often as you like, and try again. There’s no limit on tries. The scoring is on your side: it would rather give you a lucky pass than a grumpy fail.

Party rooms

We’re building a party mode: one person hosts, friends join from their own phones with a 4-letter code, and everyone hears everyone’s attempts flipped forwards. Vote on who nailed it. Argue about it. Play again.

It isn’t in the first version. Solo comes first, rooms come next.

The fine print, but friendly
